  • Selecting Bamboo and Rattan

    Step 1

Selecting Bamboo and Rattan Materials are carefully chosen based on age, flexibility, and shape. Ideal bamboo is 5–10 years old, with straight, smooth stems and minimal knots, sourced from Vietnamese mountain regions (avoiding the top and bottom growth areas where light exposure affects quality).

  • Splitting and Making Bamboo/Rattan Strips

    Step 2

Splitting and Making Bamboo/Rattan Strips Rattan's outer bark is stripped to reveal its workable core, which is split into uniform strands. Bamboo is similarly split into strips sized according to the final product's requirements, ensuring consistency.

  • Anti-Corrosion and Anti-Mold Treatment

    Step 3

Anti-Corrosion and Anti-Mold Treatment Two key methods protect against decay and insects: smoking (improves termite resistance and flexibility) and boiling (removes impurities, kills bacteria, and enhances elasticity). Materials are then sun-dried to boost strength and durability.

  • Making the Pendant Frame and Assembly

    Step 4

Making the Pendant Frame and Assembly This involves four steps — selecting a shape (round, drum, cluster, conical, etc.), precise measurement for stable joints, cutting and assembling components, and quality control testing to confirm the frame can bear the lamp's weight and external stress.

  • Weaving of Bamboo/Rattan Pendant Shade

    Step 5

Weaving of Bamboo/Rattan Pendant Shade Artisans use techniques like woven mesh, embroidery, and twisted weave to create intricate patterns. Weaving starts from key frame points, with continuous checks for uniformity, finishing with detailed borders and accents.

  • Final Quality Assurance and Testing

    Step 6

Final Quality Assurance and Testing Final steps include controlled natural drying plus anti-termite/anti-mold treatment, surface coloring (natural golden hue, eco-friendly stains, or black lacquer for rattan pieces), professional electrical installation and testing, and a comprehensive final quality inspection before shipping.

Our story

Wabi sabi is not a style.
It's how rattan behaves.

“Every strand bends its own way — we weave with it, not against it.”

IndochinaLight works directly with weaving artisans in Phú Vinh village, Vietnam. Shades are made to order from sustainably sourced rattan and bamboo, so small tonal shifts and irregular knots aren't flaws — they're the reason your light is the only one like it.

Frequently Asked Questions About IndochinaLight

What's the difference between IndochinaLight's Rattan, Bamboo, and Wabi Sabi pendant lights?

Rattan pendant lights use woven vine shades for a warm, structured silhouette — our largest collection, spanning Room, Shape, Color, and Style variations. Bamboo pendant lights use split-bamboo strips for a crisper, more linear weave pattern. Wabi Sabi pieces apply an imperfect, organic aesthetic across our rattan styles, favoring irregular forms and muted, earthy finishes over symmetrical shapes.

All three are hand-woven by the same artisans in Phu Vinh village, so the choice comes down to the texture and silhouette you want, not a difference in craftsmanship or durability. Browse Rattan Pendant Lights or explore our Bamboo and Wabi Sabi collections to compare.

Are rattan and bamboo pendant lights durable enough for daily use?

Yes. With proper care, our rattan and bamboo fixtures last 10+ years. We harvest the rattan from sustainably managed Vietnamese highland forests and treat it to resist cracking, and all electrical components are UL Listed, CE Certified, and cULus Approved. Humidity and direct sunlight are the two main factors that shorten lifespan, so most buyers keep pendants away from uncovered outdoor spaces.

See our Product Care Guide for material-specific cleaning steps.

Do you offer custom sizing or bespoke pendant lights?

Yes, bespoke sizing and cord-length modifications are available on select designs, useful if you're matching an existing fixture or working around a non-standard ceiling height. Contact our team with your room dimensions before ordering, and we'll confirm what's possible for the specific piece you're considering.

Not sure what size fits your space first? Check our Product Size Guide for the standard sizing formula.

Who makes IndochinaLight's pendant lights?

Every piece is hand-woven by artisans in Phu Vinh village, Vietnam, a craft community with generations of rattan and bamboo weaving expertise. Founder Lewis Nguyen, who grew up in the region and holds a degree in Interior Design from Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts, started IndochinaLight in 2019 to bring that craftsmanship to a global market while keeping production rooted in the village.

Read the full story on our About page.

How is each pendant light made?

Each shade goes through a 6-step process: selecting and preparing 5-10 years old rattan or bamboo, splitting it into even strands, smoking and boiling the material for durability, building the frame, hand-weaving the shade, then finishing with drying, staining, wiring, and a 3-point quality check. A single shade takes 12 to 24 hours of hand-weaving. See the full Production Process for every step.

Is IndochinaLight an eco-friendly brand?

Yes. We harvest our rattan and bamboo from sustainably managed Vietnamese highlands, weave them without harsh chemicals, and finish them with low-impact staining methods instead of synthetic coatings. Choosing hand-woven natural fiber also supports fair, sustained work for artisans in Phu Vinh village rather than machine production.

Do you ship internationally, and how long does delivery take?

Yes, we ship worldwide from our warehouses in the US, UK, and China. Standard shipping takes 20-25 days to the US, Canada, and Australia, and 20 days to the UK and EU (30 days to the rest of the world), plus 3-5 days of processing before your order ships. Express shipping via FedEx or DHL cuts delivery to 7-10 days in any region. Full details are on our Shipping Policy page.

Is shipping free?

Orders of $500 or more ship free worldwide. Orders under $500 are charged up to $24.95, calculated by weight and dimensions at checkout. See the Shipping Policy for the full breakdown.

What if my pendant light arrives damaged, since rattan and bamboo are fragile?

Every fixture ships in reinforced, multi-layer corrugated packaging with custom-molded inserts to prevent movement in transit. If your order still arrives damaged or defective, you have 30 days from the delivery date to report it with photos. Full terms are in our Refund Policy.

What is your return policy if I simply change my mind?

You have 14 days from delivery to return an unused item in its original packaging for a change of mind or if we shipped the wrong product, separate from the 30-day window for defective or transit-damaged items. Full conditions are in our Refund Policy.

Do your pendant lights come with a warranty?

Yes, every pendant light comes with a 2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects, along with the 14-day change-of-mind and 30-day defective/transit-damage windows above.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal, Meta Pay, Shop Pay, Venmo, iDEAL, and Bancontact. All transactions are encrypted. See Payment Methods for the full list.

Do you offer discounts for buying multiple pendant lights?

Yes. Orders of 2 pendant lights get 5% off with code IDLIGHT05, and orders of 3 pendant lights get 10% off with code IDLIGHT10. For 5+, contact us for wholesale pricing.

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

Yes, within 24 hours of placing your order — after that, it enters production and can't be modified. Contact us as soon as possible.

How do I clean and maintain a rattan or bamboo pendant light?

Dust weekly with a soft microfiber cloth, moving along the direction of the weave. Avoid harsh chemicals and never submerge in water. Rattan benefits from a light misting of water every month. Full instructions in our Product Care Guide.

How long do IndochinaLight pendant lights last?

With proper care, our rattan and bamboo pendant lights last 10+ years. See the Product Care Guide for the specific steps that will get you there.
